Summer School at Bosworth

Bosworth has been running Summer School programmes for over 30 years. All of our English programmes are managed by our full-time English specialists within the college.

Programmes are aimed at 10-17 year olds, students can attend from 2 weeks up to 6 weeks.

Summer School is suitable for individuals or small groups.

General English forms the basis of all course options. It is a stand-alone programme or you can combine with any of the following activities: Arts & Crafts, Go Karting, Tennis Coaching or Film Making. If you combine with one of the additional activities listed above, you will take part in that activity on four afternoons each week.

Summer School includes two full-day trips to another nearby town/city and transport will either be by coach or national rail.

The boarding house accommodation is fully supervised and all meals are provided in the college; the menus are varied and always include a healthy option.

Students get plenty of conversation practice by interacting with our activity leaders who are on duty every day. This interaction combined with the two-day trips each week keeps the learning fun.

General English

Morning – Students will be divided into ability groups and this will be based on the individual’s language level. The course will cover the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will learn and practice presentation skills alongside researching projects. There will be an English test every 2 weeks during summer school.

Afternoon – The afternoon sessions will be team-building exercises either in the main hall or outside. They are intended to be fun, but will also have educational value; developing the student’s confidence and fluency, in varied learning environments. This programme is aimed at students who wish to meet others of a similar age and prepare their English for use in future academic environments. The course is fun, using themed English lessons in class and then having the chance to use their conversational English in the team exercises and excursions. The course is ideal for motivated students who are preparing for GCSE, A-level or equivalent academic study either in the UK or abroad but also wish to experience life in Britain.

Excursions & Activities

Full-day excursions take place on a Wednesday and a Saturday every week. They usually include some cultural interest combined with either sight-seeing, shopping or an arranged activity. Typical activities include; Harry Potter Studio Tour, punting on the river at Cambridge, a day out at Alton Towers Theme Park and London where we visit many of the well-known tourist attractions. However, students must be prepared to do lots of walking as this is usually the easiest and most enjoyable way to see our cities!

Each year we try to vary the places we visit and make our choice in line with the ages and interests of the students and events that are taking place in the UK.

The summer school social programme will take place every evening between 19.00 – 21.00 and will include various activities including craft nights, in-house entertainment and sports; Badminton, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Table Tennis and Tennis.
